House Trailer Endorsement

Code 7 — House Trailer Endorsement

Required to tow a fully-loaded recreational house trailer exceeding 4,600 kg gross vehicle weight (GVW) with a Class 4 or 5 licence. If your RV, 5th wheel, or toy hauler exceeds this weight when fully loaded, you legally need Code 7 before towing it on BC roads.

🚐

Who Needs Code 7

Any Class 4 or 5 licence holder who tows a recreational house trailer — such as a large RV, 5th wheel, toy hauler, or heavy camper trailer — with a fully-loaded weight exceeding 4,600 kg. If your trailer and vehicle combined exceed this at a weigh station, you can be stopped and fined on the spot.

📋

What Code 7 Requires

To add Code 7 to your Class 4 or 5 licence you must: pass an ICBC recreational vehicle knowledge test, meet vision and medical standards, and pass a practical road test with your truck and trailer at ICBC. Drive Force Academy provides one-on-one training covering all ICBC-required aspects: driving, backing, coupling and uncoupling, and pre-trip checks.

Drive Force Academy's Code 7 training is one-on-one with a certified instructor. We cover everything ICBC will test — including backing with a trailer, which most people find the most challenging part. You will not go to your road test unprepared.

Heavy Trailer Endorsement

Code 20 — Heavy Trailer Endorsement

Required to tow a non-recreational trailer exceeding 4,600 kg GVW with a Class 4 or 5 licence — where neither the trailer nor towing vehicle has air brakes. Covers boat trailers, horse trailers, flatdecks, and heavy utility trailers. A Code 20 also covers you for Code 7 — one endorsement, broader authority.

🚚

Who Needs Code 20

Any Class 4 or 5 licence holder towing a non-recreational trailer exceeding 4,600 kg GVW — boat trailers, horse trailers, heavy flatdecks, livestock trailers, and utility trailers. Also required for any commercial towing regardless of trailer weight.

Code 20 vs Code 7: Code 7 covers recreational house trailers only. Code 20 covers all other heavy trailers — and also satisfies the Code 7 requirement. If you need both, Code 20 is the one to get.
📋

What Code 20 Requires

To add Code 20 to your Class 4 or 5 licence you must:

  • ✓ Hold a valid BC Class 4 or 5 licence
  • ✓ Pass a commercial medical assessment
  • ✓ Pass the Class 3 knowledge test at ICBC (80% to pass)
  • ✓ Pass a practical road test with your truck and trailer at ICBC — includes pre-trip, backing, coupling and uncoupling
  • ✓ Neither vehicle nor trailer may have air brakes (if air brakes present, Class 1 is required instead)

Drive Force Academy Code 20 Training

One-on-one practical training covering everything ICBC will test — pre-trip inspection, backing with a heavy trailer, coupling and uncoupling, and road test preparation. Both Ravi and Sunny have operated heavy trailer combinations professionally and train you in real conditions, not a parking lot simulation.

Air Brake Endorsement

Code 15 — Air Brake Endorsement Training

Drive Force Academy provides the 7-hour Air Brake theory course required before your ICBC knowledge test. Both instructors hold Code 15 and have operated air-braked vehicles commercially for a combined 28+ years.

The Air Brake knowledge test is written at ICBC or a designated ServiceBC location — not at our facility. Our certification assessment facility is under ICBC approval (see our Air Brake Facility page). Currently we provide the mandatory theory course and practical preparation.

Why Train With Us

Endorsements Taught by People Who Use Them

Ravi and Sunny are not teaching endorsements from a manual. Both hold Code 15 Air Brake endorsements and Class 1 licences — meaning they operate air-braked commercial vehicles as part of their professional practice. Code 7 training is delivered with an actual trailer setup so you train in real conditions, not a parking lot simulation.

🎓

Certified Instructors

Both Ravi and Sunny are certified driving instructors holding Class 1 licences and Code 15 Air Brake endorsements.
